Why the Fazlullah Foundation established
The life of a social worker is the best example to be kept alive for the future. Sad demise of Mr. The life of A. N. M Fazlullah, who passed away on 8th September 2000, is full with examples of helping poor, changing reality and transcending the existence into a process of learning for the poor and self-development. However, those who are aware of his long career and background must show respect to what he dreamt of and why did he cut out his career as a development worker, planner and practitioner despite enormous potential of being a moneymaker since he was a professional cost accountant. He died at his office, far away from his home, in Tangail as an Executive Director of Tangail Rural Development Cell (TRDC).
Mr. Fazlullah contributed in several organizations including CUSO, Inter Peres, Phillips Gloeilampenfabrieken, CCDB and Concern. During last decades of his life, he begun to work in a remote area of Tangail under the organization called “Tangail Rural Development Cell” (TRDC). With his relentless effort and consistent persuasion of the cause of the poor, he had transformed this grassroots organization into a sustainable center for the poor to govern their own causes in an innovative and enduring path of devotion.
However, man dies but works never dies down if it is for mankind. Fazlullah always meant social work as a mileage to achieve-an ever-unfinished task of mankind. His works, examples of development work and sincere and unbroken conviction would remain for us a matter of deep understanding. The time he joined hands with development agencies and teamed up with first generation development workers of this country reminds us of his conscious decision since he could have chosen the lucrative path of a cost accountant back in seventies. But he didn’t like to be conventional careerist; instead he became a development worker. We would find hardly anybody in Bangladesh who had the passion to leave aside all offers other than being a walker in uncertain path and often had to bear the crisis in the midst of all possible open windows to look for wealth. All his friends adored him for his strong conviction for the causes of the poor.
He was born in Babu Nagar- a remote village of Noakhali in January 01, 1937. He graduated from Government college of Commerce, Chittagong in 1957.
